Instructions for Businesses
Getting Started
To get your business listed on ShopMainStreet.org, you will need to be invited by a local Main Street program or other revitalization effort in your commercial district.
Business Listing Requirements
To be eligible for listing on ShopMainStreet.org, your business must:
- Be located in a Main Street, neighborhood traditional commercial district – businesses located in malls, strip malls, new commercial developments, and other non-traditional commercial areas will not be accepted.
- Be independently owned or a locally-owned chain or fanchise - National chains and franchises are not eligible for the site.
- Have some e-commerce capability – this is defined as either a full online store or an online catalog with pricing and phone ordering capability.
- Have the ability to ship or otherwise deliver their products to anywhere in the US – service businesses or other businesses that require the customer to physically visit the store to take advantage of their goods are no eligible for the site.
Business Listings Include:
- Business Name
- Website
- A 1000 character business description
- Business Image - this could be an exterior or interior shot - or even a picture of the business owner. Whatever will help connect the customer with the store.
Please Note: All businesses are listed with the city & state of their inviting organization.
Important Reminder
Your listing will only be visible as long as your inviting organization’s membership is active. If your inviting organization’s membership expires, your free listings will no longer be visible.
We are looking at models for working directly with businesses but for now, we suggest that you contact your sponsoring organization and help encourage them to renew – perhaps with a donation! After all, look at all they are doing to help you.
